The members’ meeting of Bayern Munich got completely out of hand on Friday. A request to vote on a sponsorship deal with Qatar Airways was rejected by the board – much to the anger of the audience.
Michael Ott, one of the 780 members present at the meeting, was not happy that Bayern wants to deal with a country where human rights are being violated. He wanted to let the audience vote on the issue, but was silenced by chairman Herbert Hainer.
The room then exploded. “We are Bayern and you are not!”, they chanted. Hainer then cited the commercial importance of the sponsorship deal. After this it became even more restless: the meeting was discontinued.
When the meeting continued and Hainer decided not much later to close it – while several members still wanted to have their say – there was one big chaos in the room.
