‘Cars made in Indonesia’ are still selling well abroad. The export performance of CBU (Completely Built Up) cars increased throughout January – October 2021 when compared to the same period last year.
Quoted from data from the Association of Indonesian Automotive Industries (Gaikindo), Friday (11/26/2021), Indonesia’s car exports were recorded at 235,955 units during January-October 2021.
Exports of ‘Made in Indonesia’ cars have increased by 30.3% over the same period last year. For comparison, in the January-October 2020 period, car exports were recorded at 181,101 units.
There are nine manufacturers who export cars made in Indonesia on a CBU basis. Daihatsu, which produces and exports Daihatsu, Mazda and Toyota cars, is the largest contributor to exports from Indonesia.
During January-September this year, 95,107 units of cars made by PT Astra Daihatsu Motor were shipped overseas. The car models consist of Daihatsu Gran Max, Mazda Bongo (Gran Max twins), Toyota Lite Ace, Toyota Avanza, Toyota Rush, Toyota Raize, and Toyota Wigo (Agya twins).
The increase in Daihatsu’s exports also occurred on a monthly basis. A total of 10,189 units were shipped overseas in October 2021. There is a difference of 2.4 percent when compared to the previous month.
Furthermore, PT Toyota Motor Manufacturing Indonesia (TMMIN) became the second largest export contributor. Gaikindo data records that Toyota exported 54,643 units of cars in January-October 2021. PT TMMIN exported Toyota cars such as the Toyota Fortuner, Toyota Innova, Toyota Sienta, Toyota Vios, and Toyota Yaris.
Next is Mitsubishi Motors which exported 42,136 units of cars during January-October 2021. Currently, Mitsubishi is exporting Mitsubishi Xpander and Xpander Cross cars.
Then Suzuki sent 34,658 units of Indonesian-made cars abroad. The Indonesian-made Suzuki cars sold abroad include the Suzuki Ertiga, Suzuki XL7, Suzuki Carry, and Suzuki APV.
Honda also sends cars made in Indonesia abroad. A total of 5,000 units of Honda cars were exported to the Philippines and Vietnam. The Honda car that was exported was the Honda Brio.
Then Hino exported 2,770 commercial vehicles. Hyundai exported 836 units of H-1 (Grand Starex). DFSK sent 751 units of Indonesian-made cars abroad.
Lastly, Wuling exported 54 units of Wuling Cortez and Chevrolet Captiva cars made in Indonesia. Wuling’s shipments have decreased drastically when compared to the same period. For example, in January-October 2020, Wuling managed to send 482 units.
