The manufacturer of synthetic geomembranes, Solmax, acquired last April the American subsidiary of Koninklijke TenCate in the Netherlands. Seven months later, it was the turn of Propex, located in Tennessee and one of the main suppliers of geosynthetic products in North America, to enter the bosom of the Varenne company.
Solmax specializes in the manufacture of geomembranes, geocomposites as well as bentonite membranes and it offers containment solutions with a high quality standard. Its products are used in particular in the protection of soils against contamination, in particular in landfills in the most populous cities on the planet and also to contain the leachate (highly toxic residual liquid) resulting from mining activities carried out in fragile ecosystems.
The products of the Varenne firm are sold in more than 60 countries and they are used by large industrial companies in the mining, energy, waste management, water and civil engineering sectors. With the acquisition of Propex in the United States, Solmax strengthens its position as a leading provider of geosynthetic solutions and expands its range of specialized products.
A small multinational
Through acquisitions and its market expansion strategy, the company founded in 1981 on the Marie-Victorin road has reached a level equivalent to a small multinational in the geomembrane industry. From its head office in Varennes, Solmax has established a network of production centers and business offices located in Quebec, the United States, Germany, Australia, the Middle East (Egypt) as well as Asia, that is Malaysia, China and Thailand.
The firm employs nearly a hundred people in Quebec alone and it achieves an overall turnover of more than $ 150 million per year.
According to its president Jean-Louis Vangeluwe: “This strategic acquisition allows Solmax to expand its portfolio of high-end geosynthetic products for the benefit of engineers, distributors, contractors, operators and others working in the environmental containment and construction sectors. civilian infrastructure. “
“As a global industry leader, Solmax is accelerating the promotion and awareness of highly technical and specialized geosynthetic solutions, reducing the carbon footprint of conventional construction solutions and mitigating the effects of human activities on the environment. “
