Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – More than 100,000 people have died from exposure to the Covid-19 disease in Germany. This was revealed from data from the state public health agency, Thursday (11/25/2021).
Europe’s largest economy is currently battling a new surge in Covid-19. According to data from the Robert Koch Institute, Germany recorded 351 new deaths in the last 24 hours, bringing the total population to 100,119.
“Several hospitals are already facing an acute overload that necessitates the transfer of Covid patients abroad,” said Gernot Marx, head of the German Interdisciplinary Association for Intensive Care and Emergency Medicine. AFP.
Germany last week announced stricter Covid restrictions. Panzer Country requires people to prove that they are vaccinated, recently recovered or get a negative test result before traveling by public transport and to work.
Some of the worst-hit areas were also ordered to close (lockdown). But the spike has sparked heated debate in Germany.
The country, which is about to change its chancellor from Angela Merkel to Olaf Scholz, has even opened a total lockdown option like its neighbor Austria. Vaccines are also likely to be mandatory for all citizens.
Meanwhile, new chancellor Olaf Scholz has voiced support for mandatory vaccines. He said his new government would invest one billion euros in bonuses for health workers on the front lines of the pandemic.
Germany’s 4th wave of Covid-19 is due in part to the relatively low vaccination rate of around 69%, compared to other European countries. France, for example, has reached 75%.
