New York City will block vehicular traffic on some streets around Rockefeller Center and Radio City Music Hall just as it did in 2020. Some lanes and in some cases entire streets will be closed to allow more space for pedestrians.
The program expands the closings instituted in 2019 to give crowds more room to move, both on side streets and on main avenues.
The closings will go into effect this Friday, November 26.
Rockefeller Center street closures
- Calle 49 between Fifth Avenue and Sixth Avenue: closed to vehicle traffic between 11:00 am and midnight every day.
- Calle 50 between Fifth Avenue and Sixth Avenue: Closed to vehicular traffic between 11:00 am and midnight every day.
- Fifth Avenue:
- Two lanes of traffic were eliminated, on the east and west sides of the avenue between 48th and 52nd streets.
- There are no turns on 47th, 49th or 51st streets.
- Sixth Avenue:
- They eliminate one lane of traffic, on the east side of the avenue between 48th and 52nd streets.
MTA buses will also skip all stops between 48th and 52nd, and cross-city buses will be redirected around Rockefeller Center during pedestrian-only hours.
