(CNN) – The global incidence of covid-19 cases has increased for more than a month, according to the latest weekly epidemiological update from the World Health Organization (WHO), published on Tuesday.
Between November 15 and 21, just under 3.6 million cases were reported, representing an increase of 6% compared to the previous week. Currently, more than 256 million confirmed cases have been reported worldwide.
Europe reported an 11% increase in new COVID-19 cases.
The South-East Asia Region and the Eastern Mediterranean Region registered decreases of 11% and 9%, respectively.
The remaining three regions reported similar case numbers to the previous week.

The United States reported the largest number of new cases, followed by Germany, the United Kingdom, the Russian Federation and Turkey.
Deaths also increased, with an increase of 6% compared to the previous week. Just over 51,000 deaths were reported in the past week, and more than 5.1 million deaths have been reported worldwide as of November 21.
The Western Pacific Region and the Region of the Americas, which reported similar case numbers to the week before, had large increases in weekly deaths, with an increase of 29% and 19% respectively.
The South-East Asia Region and the African Region reported declines, while the two remaining WHO regions reported similar trends compared to the previous week.
