Unfortunately, escaped and disappeared pets are not uncommon. When the cat Alfie, who lived with his keeper Shelley on the Channel Island of Jersey, suddenly disappeared twelve years ago, Shelley looked everywhere for him. Over the years, she eventually had to put up with the fact that she won’t see her pet again. Then she became aware of a post on Facebook.
Cat missed for 12 years
When Shelley lived alone with her cat Alfie on the Channel Island off England twelve years ago, she witnessed several times how her velvet paw crept into parked cars with open windows. Even then she feared that one day Alfie might just drive away in such a car and not come back to her, reports the “Jersey Evening Post“.
This is probably how Alfie’s adventure began in 2009, when suddenly the red tabby cat was gone. Back then, Shelley didn’t have much to do with social media, so she resorted to more traditional methods to find the hangover. She hung posters all over the island, asked the neighbors, and kept calling the animal sanctuary.
Facebook brings Alfie back
But after weeks, months and years Shelley’s search was unsuccessful – and she had to come to terms with the sad knowledge that her Alfie will probably not return home. But when she was scrolling through Facebook a few days ago, she noticed a post from the local animal shelter. The employees had found a stray and were looking for the keepers of the cat.

Shelley recognized her Alfie, who was now 16 years old, immediately and drove straight to the rescue center. There her missing cat came straight out of his box and affectionately greeted his keeper. When they got home, there was still a surprise waiting for the velvet paw: In the meantime, Shelley had a daughter and a son, whom Alfie was able to get to know. The children are really happy about the addition – and the house tiger now completes the family.
