Fruitful discussions on the prospects for the partnership between Niger and UNFPA – Le Sahel

Sharing is caring!

Visiting Niger as part of the Symposium for the mobilization of traditional leaders around the demographic transition in Niger, the UN Under-Secretary-General, also Deputy Executive Director of the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), Ms. Diene Keïta, was received last Monday by the Minister of State, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation, Mr. Massoudou Hassoumi.

During discussions with the UNFPA delegation, Minister of State Massoudou Hassoumi first addressed his warm congratulations and encouragement for his appointment as head of the UN institution in charge of population issues. The Minister of State was delighted to note that Mrs. Diene Keïta chose our country, Niger, for her first trip to Africa. Indeed, as Minister of State Massoudou Hassoumi said, this visit to Niamey by the Deputy Executive Director of UNFPA is a strong signal for the government of Niger, which places population and education issues, particularly schooling for young people and keeping them in school, a central priority.

At the end of this meeting, Mrs. Diene Keïta expressed her immense satisfaction for this fruitful exchange with the Minister of State.

It should be noted that Ms. Diene Keïta is accompanied by the Regional Director for West and Central Africa of UNFPA, Ms. Argentina Matavel and the Resident Representative of UNFPA in Niger, Mr. Ismaila Mbengue.
