However, Davis stressed, Meta doesn’t want its encryption features to interfere with the company’s efforts to eradicate criminal acts that take advantage of their platform.
“There is a debate about how technology companies can continue to fight abuse and support the important work of law enforcement if we can’t access your messages,” Davis said.
According to Davis, Meta needs time to hear input from privacy and security experts, civil society, and the government, so that its encryption features can function properly in the future.
“We are taking a lot of time to fix it (security system) and we plan to complete the global rollout of the feature end-to-end encryption by default across our messaging services until around 2023,” he said.
