Jakarta (ANTARA) – Qualcomm, one of the semiconductor makers, is rumored to be changing the name of its Snapdragon chip starting this year.
The company annually releases the latest generation of chips. This year, the chip is expected to be named Snapdragon 898, following the name on the previous Snapdragon 888 series.
The Android Authority and Phone Arena pages, quoted Tuesday, predict the tradition of naming Snapdragon chips for this year will change.
The chip will still have the “Snapdragon” name, however, it will no longer be preceded by “Qualcomm”. They are also expected to remove the three-digit number that has been in the name of the Snapdragon chip.

The latest generation chips will only have a single digit number.
A tipster named Digital Chat Station, via China’s Weibo social media, said the chip that will be launched later is called Snapdragon 8 gen 1.
The name is expected to be used for the flagship platform. Qualcomm has released Snapdragon 888 Plus in addition to the regular version.
If the name is changed, it is estimated that another version of the new 8 series chip will be named Snapdragon 8 gen 2.
Qualcomm is expected to release Snapdragon 8 series chips in the near future.
