The Department is concerned about the decline in biosafety measures and increased mobility.
The governor in charge of Antioquia, Luis Fernando Suárez, last weekend ruled out the imposition of restrictive measures on mobility given the increase in infections by covid-19 experienced by the department in recent weeks.
According to Suárez, who remained at the head of the Department until last Sunday, November 21 after the participation of Governor Aníbal Gaviria in an international event, there are several indicators that have the Government concerned, ranging from increased positivity to relaxation in biosafety measures.
Faced with the first point, the president revealed that according to official calculations the positivity it is approaching 10%.
Likewise, according to the latest report from the Secretariat of Health of Antioquia, cut off last Sunday night, the number of new cases it remained close to the average of 500 daily positives, with a total of 476 confirmed infections.

“Positivity has been increasing in Antioquia (…) and it is undeniable that there is an increase,” said Suárez, while urging citizens to comply with personal protection measures.
“I insist on the emphatic call for self-care measures. We already see very often that masks are not used and we even wave with the hand“Said the governor in charge, inviting” extreme measures and advance vaccination. “
Suárez’s call joins a similar one made by several medical associations, which have expressed concern about a new regional peak of infections, as a result of the circulation of new variants, such as Delta.
For example, Carlos Valdivieso, president of the Medical College of Antioquia, warned last week that the increase in social interaction and mobility has increased the risk of a peak in December or January, in a context where the vaccination rate remains for below goal.

“The call to the authority is to organize the increase in ICU beds needed to meet a possible greater demand. Fortunately, thanks to vaccination, the arrival of coronavirus patients to the ICU has been less, “said Valdivieso.
Faced with this last point, as reported by the Ministry of Health, Antioquia accumulated a total of 7.6 million people who had been vaccinated with at least one dose, cut off on November 19.
Of that number, only 3.4 million had the complete scheme.
Although the progress of immunization in Antioquia is positive in comparison with other regions of the country, Governor Suárez described as worrying that regions such as Urabá and Bajo Cauca still maintain low indicators.
