“The deadline for current payments is November 22,” Gazprom has informed Moldova “After 48 hours, supplies to Moldova will be suspended in accordance with the agreement,” said Kupryanov.
Moldova and Gazprom at the end of last month extended the contract on gas supplies.
The agreement was reached after a sharp confrontation. In the process, Chisinau declared a state of emergency due to gas shortages and signed a gas supply agreement with a country other than Russia for the first time.
On 29 October, the two parties announced that they had agreed to extend the current contract for another five years, with deliveries starting on 1 November.
According to Kupryanov, Gazprom signed the agreement “practically on Moldova’s terms”, but on one condition, “that Moldova makes 100% payments on time.”
Vadim Cheban, the head of Moldovgaz, said the company had received a warning and promised that Moldovgaz would honor its commitments and not allow gas supplies to be cut off.
According to him, the company has to pay for the gas consumed in October and the first half of November.
