Ukraine is negotiating to correct data on the timing of the abandonment of coal

In Ukraine, no official documents have yet been approved with the aim of phasing out coal-fired generation until 2035.

The Ukrainian government has not yet approved the deadline for the abandonment of coal in the international initiative Powering Past Coal Alliance. This was announced by Olga Stefanishina, Vice Prime Minister for European and Euro-Atlantic Integration, writes Green Deal.

“The government did not approve official documents that would declare such an ambition. Therefore, the Ministry of Energy should negotiate with the PPCA in order to adjust this date (2035) in accordance with the calculations of the current Energy Strategy, which were carried out, among other things, by Ukrenergo,” she said.

The Deputy Prime Minister added that consultations are underway to correct these data.

As a reminder, during the COP26 climate summit in Glasgow, more than 40 countries concluded agreement to phase out coal… Ukraine has also joined it.

Also, Ukraine joined two agreements adopted in the climate Glasgow Summit COP26, on ending deforestation and reducing methane emissions.
