Reported Science Alert, Monday (11/22/2021), Hole found the rare stone in 2015 at Maryborough Regional Park near Melbourne, Australia. Just then the metal detector he was carrying rang when he found the very heavy reddish stone.
After being brought home, Hole tried everything possible to split the rock to retrieve the nugget of gold inside. Hole was sure to find gold because Maryborough was in the Goldfields region, where the Australian gold rush reached its peak in the 19th century.

To dismantle his findings, Hole tried rock saws, angle grinders, drills, even dousing the object with acid but failed. Even a sledgehammer couldn’t make a gap. Out of curiosity, Hole took the chunk to the Melbourne Museum for identification.
Melbourne museum geologist Dermot Henry told The Sydney Morning Herald that in 37 years working at the museum and examining thousands of rocks, this was the first time he had found a real meteorite. “I’ve seen a lot of stones that people think are meteorit , but it’s totally original,” Henry told Channel 10 News.
The researchers published a scientific paper describing the 4.6 billion-year-old meteorite, which they called Maryborough, after the town where it was found.
This meteorite is very large weighing 17 kilograms. The scientist uses a diamond saw to cut small slices. Researchers found its composition to have a high percentage of iron, making it a common chondrite of H5.
