The murder of Khashoggi? In October 2018, Jamal Khashoggi, a well-known critical reporter in the Saudi world, entered the Saudi consulate in the Turkish city of Istanbul. He wanted to collect documents there to organize his wedding to his Turkish fiancée Hatice Cengiz. Khashoggi, however, never left the consulate. Eavesdropping equipment from the Turkish secret service would show that Khashoggi was brutally murdered there by the Saudis.
Saudi Arabia initially denied, but after its own investigation, the Saudi court admitted that Khashoggi had been killed in the consulate. The intention would have been to “convince the journalist to return”, but that would have gotten out of hand. Khashoggi was overdosed on a sedative and died. His body was said to have been dismembered but was never found.
