Houthi rebels and Saudis claim back and forth attacks

The Houthis in Yemen have attacked 14 targets in Saudi Arabia with drones, according to a spokesman. It concerns several cities, military targets and the Aramco oil refinery in Jeddah, the spokesman said.

The Houthi rebels, who receive support from Iran, have been fighting a civil war in Yemen for years with the government, aided by Saudi Arabia and its allies.

Saudi Arabia has not confirmed the attacks. The Saudis did report yesterday that they destroyed three Houthis weaponized drones over southern Saudi Arabia and a fourth over Yemen. According to Saudi Arabia, the Houthis also tried to launch two short-range missiles, but they failed. The missiles allegedly landed on Yemeni territory.

The Saudi-led coalition says it attacked 13 targets in Yemen today. Weapons depots, air defense systems and communication systems would have been hit.

It is not yet known whether there is any damage to the Aramco refinery. The refinery was decommissioned in 2017, but there is still a distribution center for petroleum products that was previously attacked by the Houthis.

Very exceptionally, our correspondent Daisy Mohr managed to enter Yemen together with cameraman Pablo Torres. Read in the article below what they found there.
