The oldest bishop of the Catholic world church is dead. The Polish religious man Jerzy Jan Tomzinski, emeritus Prior General of the Pauline Order (OSPPE), died on Sunday shortly before his 103rd birthday. Tomzinski was born on November 24, 1918 in the Silesian village of Przystajn near Czestochowa and headed his order, founded in 1215, from 1963 to 1975 with the rank of bishop. He resigned from his religious profession in 1936.
Tomzinski has been the oldest Catholic bishop in the world since the death of the Spaniard Damian Iguacen Borau, emeritus bishop of San Cristobal de La Laguna on Tenerife / Spain, in November 2020. The oldest bishop is now at the age of 101 Laurent Noel, Bishop Emeritus of Trois-Rivieres (Quebec) in Canada. He has been a priest for 77 years and a bishop for 58 years.
