Eco-activist Greta Thunberg today criticized the travels of British Prime Minister Boris Johnson on a government-hired plane to participate in the international conference COP26, organized in the Scottish city of Glasgow, and described the behavior of world leaders as “hypocritical”, AFP reported.
The climate crisis is clearly not caused by private jets, but it is a bit hypocritical that world leaders who live very close, such as Boris Johnson, arrived in Glasgow on a private jet while trying to resolve the climate crisis, Thunberg told AFP.
Johnson arrived in Glasgow directly from the G20 summit in Rome on a plane chartered by the British government. He uses the same plane, a vehicle that is much more polluting than the train, to return to London. Glasgow, Scotland’s most populous city, is an hour away by plane from the British capital, while the train journey can take more than five hours.
In any case, this does not send the right message, said Thunberg, who travels by train from Stockholm to participate in the CPC26.
The activist took part today in the first school climate strike in the Swedish capital after the end of the international forum last weekend.
