Tesla’s cars and electric sports utility vehicles from competing brands are among the least reliable models sold in the United States. This follows a survey by the non-profit organization Consumer Reports, which evaluates products and services.

Tesla, the world’s most valuable carmaker, ranked 27th in a survey of 28 brands. Just before Ford’s Lincoln brand.
“Electric SUVs as a vehicle category are at an absolute bottom in terms of reliability,” said Jake Fisher, director of vehicle testing at Consumer Reports. Among electric SUVs, Ford is the only car with above-average reliability, according to Fisher’s Mustang Mach-E.

Consumer Reports recommends the Tesla Model 3 sedan and rates its reliability as average. However, according to Fisher, he evaluates other Tesla cars as below average. Tesla’s automatic car control systems are also critical. According to Fisher, Consumer Reports is concerned that drivers will rely too much on technology that cannot take over safely. However, this factor was not reflected in the reliability assessment.
Fisher also said that batteries and propulsion are not the source of the problems with electric cars. Owners report problems with other features designed to give cars a modern look and appeal to customers. Electric cars have, for example, touch control of air conditioning, seats and other devices that were previously mechanical. This leads to problems. Tesla cars have, for example, problems with wing doors, leaks, problems with air conditioning control or poorly fitting body panels.

The top rated brand in the survey was the Japanese Lexus. And eight of the top ten brands were Japanese. This is a continuation of a long-term trend. Of the US cars in Detroit, only one brand finished in the top ten, Buick in fifth place, Reuters reported.
The ranking is extremely important for the automotive industry. Many people interested in buying a car in the USA will choose Consumer Reports, which relies on the reliability of car brands in the early 1980s.
