Jakarta, CNN Indonesia —
Food crisis in North Korea reported to continue to deteriorate following the closure of the border due to pandemic Covid-19 which is not over yet.
United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) said North Korea was facing a food shortage of about 860,000 tonnes this year.
Soil moisture and flooding that hit crops in North Korea have also exacerbated the food crisis as most crops have failed.
As a result of this food crisis, North Korea’s Supreme Leader Kim Jong-un has implemented various eccentric ways to save his citizens from the hunger crisis.
The following is a list of quirky rules applied by Kim Jong-un in dealing with the food crisis.
1. Tell Residents to Eat Black Swans
Kim Jong-un reportedly asked the government and the people of North Korea to breed ornamental black swans as an alternative food ingredient. North Koreans are asked to innovate in order to survive in the midst of an economic and food crisis.
North Korea’s state media also promotes the consumption of black goose meat to its citizens.
“Black goose meat is delicious and has medicinal benefits,” said the North’s Labor Party newspaper, Rodong Sinmun, Monday (25/10).
2. Invite the Rabbit Farmers
In addition to consuming black swans, North Koreans are also invited to raise rabbits to meet their food needs.
Although some people think this order is strange, some experts are not so surprised because rabbit meat is commonly used as food in various regions of the world.
3. Tell People to Eat Less
A North Korean resident told Radio Free Asia that the North Korean government had visited people’s homes to let them know that the food crisis might still hit until 2025.
“The food situation is now serious and people are suffering. When the government asks people to save money and eat less food until 2025, they can’t do anything. They can only be sad,” said the resident, who did not want to be identified.
