The longest partial lunar eclipse of the last 580 years has begun to be observed in various parts of the world.
SputnikAccording to the quote; During the eclipse, 97 percent of the Moon will be in the Earth’s shadow, which will last exactly 3 hours, 28 minutes and 23 seconds.
EXPLANATION FROM NASA
NASA announced that it describes this eclipse as ‘almost total eclipse’ because the Moon will not be completely under the shadow of the Earth.
While the November full moon is known as the ‘Beaver moon’ in the Native American almanac because of the beavers’ preparation for winter in this month, it is also called the ‘Bloody Moon’ due to its red appearance during the lunar eclipse.
The next Lunar Eclipse will occur on May 16, 2022.
The Moon will be at its furthest point from Earth during the eclipse, slowing its orbit.
THE MOON WILL TAKE A REDISH COLOR
Due to the angle between the Moon’s orbit around the Earth and the Earth’s orbit around the Sun during the eclipse, the Moon may not enter the Earth’s full shadow cone. This situation is called Partial Lunar Eclipse. During the eclipse, the moon will turn reddish and only a sliver of the actual moon will be visible.
On the other hand, the Holocomb Observatory has released images of what the Moon will look like during the eclipse.
