Former President Donald Trump stepped in to endorse Rep. Paul Gosar, Republican of Arizona, a day after the Republican lawmaker was censored by the House and removed from his committees for sharing an anime video that showed him killing Rep. Alexandria Ocasio. -Cortez. DN.Y., and attack President Biden.
“Congressman Paul Gosar has been a staunch supporter of our America First agenda and, more importantly, America,” Trump said in a statement Thursday. “Paul is a highly respected Congressman in Arizona, strong on crime, borders, our military, and our veterans. He continually fights for lower taxes, fewer regulations, and our great, but beleaguered Second Amendment. Paul Gosar has my full and total backing! «

In a largely partisan vote Wednesday, the House voted to censor Gosar and remove him from its committees after he posted a video on Twitter earlier this month showing him and Representatives Marjorie Taylor Greene, R-Ga., And Lauren Boebert, R -Colo., Attacking a character with Ocasio-Cortez’s face edited in the video. Democrats joined in the vote to censor Gosar, while the only Republicans who voted with Democrats were Representatives Adam Kinzinger, R-Illinois, and Liz Cheney, R-Wyo.
Along with near-universal Republican opposition to the no-confidence ruling against Gosar, House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy, Republican of California, criticized Democrats for subscribing to the “rules for you, not me” philosophy. on the floor of the Chamber.
Other Republicans criticized the Democratic effort to censor Gosar, but admitted that the video was “inappropriate.”
“The video was certainly provocative and in my opinion inappropriate,” said Rep. Tom Cole, R-Oklahoma, although he cautioned that the decision to strip Gosar of his committee assignments “continues to set an extremely… dangerous precedent for future Congresses. «

But some Republicans have expressed frustration with the Republican lawmaker even as the party mostly rallied to vote against the no-confidence resolution.
“The leadership is pissed off,” a Republican House aide told Fox News. “These little distractions are a waste of energy, childish, unnecessary.”
Gosar has defended himself amid the controversy, telling Fox News that he “had nothing to apologize for.”
“I have received overwhelming support from fellow Republicans, including Leader McCarthy, for which I am incredibly grateful. Yesterday’s battle was 100% partisan and reflects the ongoing culture war, “Gosar said in a statement to Fox News on Thursday. “In this case, we did not back down and we had nothing to apologize for. I put Republicans in a great position nationally as combatants, rather than capitulators. The response from conservatives has been overwhelmingly supportive and people appreciate members who stand up and fight for what is right.
In an interview with SiriusXM’s The Wilkow Majority on Thursday, Gosar said he would have removed the video if Ocasio-Cortez had asked him to.

“If she came to see me and said, or even picked up my phone number, sent me an email or called me and said ‘I see where you were trying to get with this, but could I write it down?’ I’d love to, ”said Gosar.
The video was quickly removed after its publication, although Gosar insisted during the interview that he had no intention of doing harm.
«I do not defend violence. I am not advocating harming anyone, be it a member of Congress, be it a president of the United States, be it my own brothers and sisters, “said Gosar.
