New off-road vehicles for Defense only in 2027 after cancellation of the Mercedes contract

The tender for the 515 vehicles started in 2018. Two more companies competed in the final phase: Defenture from Tiel and Jankel Armoring Limited from the United Kingdom. Both quality and a “substantial price difference” played a role in choosing Mercedes, said outgoing minister Kamp last month to questions from Member of Parliament Belhaj (D66). The route had already been delayed by then due to the “complex development of the vehicle by the supplier”.
