After several days of waiting and confusing information from government authorities regarding the reception and application of Pfizer vaccines, this Thursday 1,000,350 doses of this drug against COVID-19 arrived at La Aurora International Airport.
Health authorities indicated that the batch of Pfizer vaccines that entered is intended to continue the vaccination of minors between 12 and 17 years old and corresponds to a delivery through the Global Access Fund for COVID-19 Vaccines (COVAX).
In the act of delivery of vaccines, the Minister of Health, Francisco Coma pointed out, “we can officially say that vaccination has been opened for the population between 12 and 17 years of age.”
This is due to the fact that at first it was programmed that the first adolescents to be vaccinated would be those with comorbidities; However, this was not the case and it was applied to young people in a healthy state, which caused a shortage of the drug in the vaccination centers after a few days.
The official added, it is the beginning of future deliveries of this type of vaccines, “the objective is to reach segments of the population that have not been vaccinated due to the lack of availability of specific vaccines.”

“We are making specific interventions in those municipalities that did not want to be vaccinated, we are sending dialogue teams prior to going with the vaccine and the results are being extraordinary,” he explained.
Coma added that a clear message is being carried, “the population is agreeing to be vaccinated and for this the participation of local authorities and actors has been fundamental.”
Vaccination does not prevent us from becoming infected, but it does significantly reduce the risk of dying, the official emphasized.
