Nick Kyrgios clarifies his suggestion to cancel Australian Open

Australian tennis star Nick Kyrgios clarified his comments on the Australian Open by insisting that his comments on the season opener Grand Slam were “taken out of context”. A few days ago, Kyrgios appeared to suggest the cancellation of the Australian Open.

Kyrgios, 26, reached the quarterfinal of the Australian Open in 2015 before losing to Andy Murray. “I don’t think the Aus Open should be held, just for the people of Melbourne – you have to send a message,” Kyrgios said on his “No Boundaries” podcast.

” Since when [Melbourne] to do in confinement? 275 days or something?

Kyrgios took to Instagram to provide context

“First of all, I just want to clarify a few things. As you know, I started a new podcast with two of my childhood friends, and some things were taken out of context regarding the Australian Open, ”he said.

“I just wanted to send this video to clarify things and have some clarity. “Tennis has been such a big part of my life for over 15 years. I gave myself and a lot of sacrifices every day for this sport.

I love it. To say that I would like the Australian Open to be canceled was the sentence that was taken out of context. “This is more true for the people of Melbourne, who have been through hell. I think it’s been 275 days, almost 300 days in confinement, and your freedom has been taken away from you.

“I do not think it is morally fair to accept players from overseas who are not vaccinated, to come to our country.” The Australian Open has yet to make an official announcement regarding the 2022 edition.

Victoria Prime Minister Daniel Andrews is keen on not allowing unvaccinated players to play at Melbourne Park. Last February, Kyrgios reached the third round of the Australian Open before taking a two-set lead over Dominic Thiem.
