The previous record for a work by Kahlo (8 million dollars in 2016) was shattered. It is also the most expensive Latin American work of art ever to be auctioned.
Intense look
The work ‘Diego y yo’ from 1949 symbolizes the self-portraits with an intense and enigmatic gaze that made Kahlo world famous. In this work, the face of her husband Diego Rivera appears on her forehead.
In addition, $ 20.2 million was paid at the auction in New York for a painting by Pierre Soulages. This is a record amount for the 101-year-old French artist.
