Two provinces in Austria to close on Monday, Slovakia to isolate unvaccinated
Two Austrian provinces – Upper Austria and Salzburg, announced a full lockdown on Monday, the Austrian news agency APA reported, quoted by BNR.
“We are also closing schools, we have no choice,” explained Salzburg Prime Minister Wilfried Haslauer.
The two provinces have been hardest hit by the fourth wave of the pandemic. The new cases in nearly nine million Austria for the last day are over 15 thousand, and the dead are 55.
As of Monday, quarantine is in force in Austria for the unvaccinated, who can leave home just to go to work or shop. The government of Chancellor Alexander Schalenberg has so far rejected the introduction of a full lockdown across the country.
– Slovakia will introduce stricter measures for the unvaccinated against kovid-19 against the background of the increase in the number of infected and hospitalized people who burden the health care system, announced the Prime Minister Eduard Heger. “This is a lockdown for the unvaccinated,” he told a news conference live on television.
– Russia has registered a record number of deaths from kovid-19 for the second day in a row, although the number of newly infected is starting to decrease. Russia’s operational headquarters to fight the infection today announced 1,251 deaths from covid. The previous record of 1,247 deaths was registered yesterday. The newly infected are 37,374.
According to health experts, the current outbreak is due to low levels of vaccination and the lack of serious public attitude towards the imposed restrictive measures. Less than 40 percent of Russia’s nearly 146 million people have been fully vaccinated, although the country was one of the first to develop a vaccine against the new infection.
The Russian government has said new restrictions will be introduced next year and access to many public places, as well as domestic and international flights, will be allowed only to those who have been vaccinated, who have had the disease and who have not been vaccinated for medical reasons.
– Belgium will introduce at least 4 days of work from home from next week. The measure will be valid until December 12. The reason is the rise of a new covid wave with about 10,000 infected daily.
– The European Commission will make a recommendation on Friday to extend the use of certificates for kovid for travel to the EU, a source familiar with the matter told EURACTIV. The source added that the term of the certificate will be twelve months after the last dose of covid vaccine. This means that a third dose test or immunization will be needed after the travel document expires.
