The parents of the San Bernardo de La Estación school demand the expansion of the center

The parents of the San Bernardo school from the San Roque Station have mobilized this Thursday, with the support of Workers Commissions and the city Hall of the town, to claim the Junta de Andalucía an expansion of the center.

CCOO has valued the result of the mobilization very positively because the territorial delegation of Education in Cádiz has called a meeting with the parties to address the demands of the educational community. It will be on Thursday, November 25.

Sebastian Alcon, Provincial Secretary of Education of the CCOO, has described the situation of the center as unacceptable, denouncing that old warehouses, offices or the stairwell They are being used as makeshift classrooms and the educational administration does not provide solutions.

“Meanwhile he municipal government has proposed the assignment of an annex premises to the school so that the Andalusian educational administration incorporates it as a new facility of the center, thus increasing the number of classrooms and spaces, the Ministry of Education of the Board denies that any offer was made formal, and in the middle, the center has been the object of visits and promises of solution by all the agents involved, the City Council and the Ministry “, said Alcón.

CCOO also focuses on the fact that the center has 22 students with Specific Educational Support Needs (NEAE) and does not have a specific classroom. The severity is even greater, according to CCOO, since the center has 14 students who require PTIS attention, but only two professionals are hired, one of them on a short-time (2 hours a day).

“We hope that the meeting with the educational authority will serve to unblock the current situation and offer an agile and satisfactory response to the reasonable demands of this educational center,” said Alcón.

CCOO recalled that the center was designed to have a single line from Infant to 2nd of ESO, that in the 2008/2009 academic year there were a total of 248 students, while in this 2021/2022 academic year the enrollments are of 366. “That the center is overwhelmed is evident, but it is not a new fact in the 2018/2019 academic year, 395 registrations were reached”, they concluded.

Municipal support

Municipal authorities have participated in this protest to support the demands of the parents’ collective.

Among other members of the Corporation, the deputy mayors Belén Jiménez, Juan Serván and Juan Manuel Ordóñez attended, the first two being responsible for Education and the area of Estación, Taraguilla and Miraflores, respectively. The mothers and fathers carried a banner in which, in addition to requiring the investment in the old nursery, they rejected the current prefab classroom and “other buildings” in the center. At the end of October there was another concentration with the same demands.

Belén Jiménez recalled that the Territorial Delegate for Education, Miguel Andreu, promised in January 2020 to expand the center that same year, which would make it possible to eliminate the prefabricated classroom installed in one of the courtyards in September 2019. However, said classroom it continues to function at school.
