The one who proclaims himself the «chaman» and which adheres to the conspiracy theories of the small group QAnon had pleaded guilty in September of obstructing an official procedure for having prevented the elected officials from certifying the victory of Joe Biden in the presidential election. After the attack that claimed the lives of four people, nearly 600 rioters were charged. Jacob Chansley could face up to twenty years in prison, but no one expected him to spend so much time behind bars.

Today far from the conspiracy movement

During the hearing, which was held by videoconference, his lawyer insisted on the absence “Criminal history” of his client, who is only a man “Non-violent, peaceful and suffering from real psychological problems”. In addition, still according to his lawyer, Jacob Chansley “repudiated” today the conspiracy movement and has in no way been “an organizer” of the attack. So many reasons that had led him to demand the release of his client at the end of the trial (the “shaman” had been languishing in prison for more than eight months). The prosecutor had demanded a 51-month prison sentence and a $ 2,000 fine.

In January, shortly after the attack and while Donald Trump was still head of state for a few days, Jacob Chansley asked to be pardoned, explaining that he had simply responded to the President’s call. Disappointed that no follow-up was given to his request, he had assured to be ready to testify against the deposed president.

Last week Scott Fairlamb, another rioter who hit a police officer outside the Capitol on the head, was also sentenced to 41 months in prison. These two sentences are the most severe pronounced so far. However, since both men had pleaded guilty and their sentences were therefore reduced, it would not be surprising to see other pseudo-revolutionaries sentenced more severely in the coming months.
