While thousands of migrants from Belarus are trying to enter Poland, 22 people have been illegally crossing the border on the Latvian-Belarusian border every day. The state border guard says that it is ready for the challenges and there is no lack of technical support, ReTV reports.
However, there are still several stages where it was not possible to build a temporary barbed wire fence. Migrants are also still trying to use them for illegal border crossings.
The situation is not simple, but it is under control and there is no cause for concern. This was announced today by Juris Kusiņš, a representative of the Daugavpils Department of the State Border Guard, at the temporary fence on the Latvian-Belarusian border. Migrant groups, mostly young men, are still trying to cross the border, now without a fence. “Both the State Border Guard and our cooperation partners, the National Armed Forces, the State Police, the state security authorities, are ready for such developments. Appropriate algorithms and action plans have been developed, ”explains Juris Kusiņš.
The State Border Guard does not reveal exactly what actions are provided by the algorithms. The Minister knows them. “The police are being trained to control the crowd if that happens. At the moment, this is not the case at our border, but we are preparing for it. The police also have their own technical means, ”says Marija Golubeva, Minister of the Interior (“ For Development / For! ”).
There is no lack of technical means, but the representative of the State Border Guard emphasizes that, first of all, psychological suspension methods are used.
For example, pre-recorded speeches are played in Kurdish, Arabic, English, and Russian. Of course, the most effective method is a fence.
“Currently, 31 kilometers have been built, it is clear that the construction of this fence will be completed by the end of next week, because the last delivery has finally taken place,” says Maria Golubeva.
So – the bustle of builders on the border will soon end. However, the attention paid to the Belarusian border in previous months has not really caused any concern among the local population. This is stated by those met in Varnavičy. Although there was no need this year, the people of Varna have experience of what to do if some suspicious foreigners cross the village. “About three years ago came, probably Iraqis. I even went into the yard. Six people. They asked how to get to the center. He asked in Arabic, but I don’t understand Arabic anymore. Then the English tried, realizing that it requires a taxi and a center. I called the border guards, they came, ”says Ilya, a resident of Varnaviči.
The police in the village, which is the last settlement between the Daugava and the border, have regulated and patrolled even before the state of emergency was declared. Representatives of the armed forces have not been noticed by the locals either.
