The most active women investors are in Estonia, the least active – in Lithuania, the bank’s representatives inform. In Latvia, there is one woman per three investors.
Since this spring, more than 50,000 SEB banka customers across the Baltics have tried the Roboinvestor’s tool in the mobile app and almost 12% of them have started investing. More than 70% of investment start-ups are men.
The most active women investors are in Estonia, where women make up about 31% of all clients who have started investing with the help of Roboinvestor. In Lithuania, the proportion of women is the lowest in the Baltics – only about 23%, but in Latvia women make up about 28% of Roboinvestor users.
Andris Lāriņš, Head of the Financial Market Department of SEB banka, points out that these statistics quite aptly reflect the general unpleasant trend in the country, which shows that investors are still dominated by investors and that it is necessary to work on gender equality in financial matters.
There are also differences in the amounts invested by both women and men. For example, in Estonia, men choose to replenish their investment portfolio by an average of 50 euros each month, while women – by 30 euros. In Lithuania and Latvia, the data are very similar – men invest an average of 45 and 40 euros per month, respectively, while women in both countries add an average of 37 euros to their portfolio each month.
“These data prove that the people of the Baltics understand that investments can start with small amounts. In order to grow their financial cushion, regularity and discipline are key in the case of small amounts,” says Lāriņš.
He adds that, unfortunately, both the difference in the average amount invested between investors of both sexes and the lower activity among women confirm larger-scale problems, where one of the reasons is related to the pay gap between women and men. If women earn on average 22% less, they cannot afford to invest as much as men. Over time, this only widens the gap in financial well-being between women and men.
The “Roboinvestor” tool developed by “SEB banka” in the mobile application will be available to customers from this spring. It acts as an advisor, asking the user a series of questions about the investment objectives, the tolerable risk, and the current financial situation. After analyzing the information received, the client is offered one of the funds managed by the SEB Group, taking into account the objectives and risk tolerance. The process takes up to 15 minutes and it is possible to invest from one euro.
In terms of assets, SEB banka is the third largest bank in Latvia.
