An 11-year-old girl is the only survivor of a plane crash that killed four people last Saturday on an island in Lake Michigan (United States). She owes her life to a saving gesture from her father who protected her by taking her in his arms.
A miracle. Laney Perdue, 11, is the only survivor of a air crash which claimed the lives of four people this Saturday near Beaver Island, Michigan (United States), indicates ABC News. THE’airplane, a twin-engine Britton-Norman BN-2, had taken off from Charlevoix airport (Quebec) and crashed a little over fifteen minutes later near Welke airport, located on Beaver Island, then that he had initiated the landing maneuver. Four people died as a result of the crash: the pilot of the aircraft, a couple of passengers and Mike Perdue, Laney’s father. The latter survived the accident but succumbed to his injuries in the helicopter that evacuated him to the hospital in Petoskey, Michigan.
“The first caregivers to arrive at the scene confirmed that he had saved her life”
The girl was the victim of several fractures but still managed to give the contact details of her mother to the emergency services when they arrived at the scene of the crash. The girl’s mother Christina said, via a statement quoted by ABC News, that Laney’s last memory before the crash is the embrace of her father seeking to protect her. “We are heartbroken at the loss of my husband, father, brother, son and friend (…). I believe he grabbed our daughter and protected her”. A version confirmed by Ryan Vojan, a family friend, who testified to the UpNorthLive news site. “The only thing Laney remembers is that her father was hugging her tight and the first caregivers on the scene confirmed that he saved her life.”. The little girl’s life is not in danger even though she had to undergo two operations following her injuries.
The causes of the plane crash are, for the time being, unknown. An investigation has been opened.
