Any IGTV videos and Feeds that are less than 15 minutes long will be added to the Reels channel automatically.
Instagram today (17/11) announced its plans to unify all video content less than 15 minutes into the Reels tab. The short video feature, which was first launched in June 2021, has experienced significant growth, especially among Indonesian users.
Pieter Lydian, Country Director for Meta in Indonesia explained, Instagram currently has several tabs or channels for video content. This includes Feeds, Instagram TV, and Reels. But by unifying every video in one channel, the platform might make it easier for creators. Therefore, Instagram did a test run to make sure.
“We saw that if we put this together and everything was made simple for the users, could it get any easier. So, that is the target of the trial,” Pieter said in the Instagram Virtual Press Conference.
Videos from IGTV or Feeds that are less than 15 minutes long will enter the Reels timeline which can be found in the Reels tab or channel. Meanwhile, videos with a duration longer than that will remain on their respective channels. Merging this video channel does not include Instagram Story dan Live.
The trial will only be conducted in Indonesia and Japan. Indonesia was chosen because it is one of the countries with the most active users on Reels. Pieter said the trial will be carried out for several months, but did not mention the time.
