The ‘record’ of the past eighteen months stood until today on December 22, when RIVM announced that 82,340 infections had been detected in seven days.
79,000 tests per day
The number of new corona cases has risen by about 44 percent. A week ago, RIVM reported 77,000 positive tests. The largest increase can be seen in the number of reports of children aged 10 and 11.
It is busy in the test streets, more than 79,000 corona tests were taken per day this week. The result was positive at 19.6 percent. That’s almost a fifth of the total. Last week it was 17.2 percent.
It is known where it was contracted for only 22 percent of the infections. Of that small group, 15.4 percent can be traced back to school and childcare. Last week it was 9.9 percent.

Ernst Kuipers, chairman of the National Acute Care Network, expressed the expectation on Monday that the number of admitted patients will continue to rise for the time being. He foresees that 2,600 corona patients will be in hospitals in about a week. In the following days, that number is expected to rise to the highest peak of last winter, of 2800 people.
New recordings
This week, 224 new patients were admitted to intensive care units. Last week there were 191 and two weeks ago 128. The number of new admissions to intensive care units therefore rose slightly less rapidly than last week (now 17 percent, last week 49 percent).
The nursing departments received 1,498 new corona patients, an increase of 24 percent. Last week there were 1210 and two weeks ago 1024.
R-number stable
Also this week the reproduction number is 1.21. The number has been stable in recent weeks, which means that the number of infections continues to rise at the same pace. Now 100 people who have corona together infect 121 new people.

Major differences in vaccination coverage
The latest vaccination figures are from the beginning of last week. It is estimated that 85.9 percent of all people over the age of 12 have now received at least one vaccination and 82.4 percent have been fully vaccinated.
There are still large regional differences. We still see the lowest vaccination rate in the bible belt municipalities of Urk (28 percent), Staphorst (54 percent) and Neder-Betuwe (59 percent). But the Bible Belt is certainly not the only place in the Netherlands where vaccination coverage and attendance seem to be a problem.
For example, the municipality of Rotterdam is in ninth place among municipalities with a low vaccination rate. 68 percent of the population aged 12 years and older is fully vaccinated here.
