Floods in Egypt cause scorpion plague

Floods hit the Egyptian province of Aswan last weekend after heavy rainfall, hail and thunderstorms. Three people were killed in the flooding, according to the governor of the province.

More than four hundred bites

State media reported according to Al Jazeera then that scorpions took refuge in the houses of the Egyptians.

More than four hundred people were bitten by the beasts. Health Minister Khalid Abdel-Ghafar confirmed the news in a statement.

Because hospitals in the region had enough antidote available, no one died from the effects of the scorpion bites.

However, people had to vomit after the bites, they developed a severe fever, pain, diarrhea and muscle tremors.

‘The murderer’

The scorpion that lives in the area is 8 to 10 centimeters long and is also known as ‘the killer’. The animal is one of the most dangerous scorpions in the world, and without an antidote, an adult can die a few hours after the bite.
