The European Center for Disease Prevention and Control is currently studying this sub-option to see if it might be more resistant to vaccinations or treatments.
“Its frequency is increasing somewhat in European countries, for example in the UK. According to research results, this subvariant is more actively transmitted, but has approximately the same resistance to antibodies as other Delta varieties,” the report said.
Meanwhile, the E484K mutation is of greater concern – however, this variant has not yet been found in the Czech Republic.
“Czech laboratories have sequenced a total of 7176 samples within the Delta mutation and have not found a subvariant E484K in any of them,” confirmed Gelena Irzhintsova, head of the National Reference Laboratory.
The Delta strain and its sub-variants, primarily AY.43, account for approximately 98% of all coronavirus infections in the Czech Republic.
