Riesa: Concrete parts fall from the railway bridge

Nuisance. Police officers stop the traffic on the Elberadweg on Sunday evening: Chunks of concrete fell from the Riesa railway bridge over the Elbe, directly onto the roadway of the Elberadweg. “The incident has not yet had any impact on rail traffic,” said the on-call service at about 7.30 p.m. when asked.

The federal police reported an accident in the afternoon. A technician had been sent to examine the condition of the Riesa Elbe bridge. “We haven’t got any feedback from him yet,” it said shortly after half past seven in the evening.

Shortly after 8 p.m., the Elbe Cycle Path was passable again on Sunday evening and the concrete parts cleared. Apparently these had fallen from a cable duct on the bridge. © SZ

The cycle path on the right bank of the Elbe between Promnitz and Bobersen is affected. There it first crosses under the road bridge of the B 169 and then down the Elbe the railway bridge. The striking steel bridge was built in 1964-66. In 2006 it was expanded to include a third track.

The bridge from GDR times has suffered from the current damage. At this point, the long-distance Dresden-Leipzig traffic crosses the Elbe, the regional express Saxonia, but also the Chemnitz-Elsterwerda rail link.
