Macron plan. “It’s the cacophony”: Marseille schools are in the dark

September 2nd, Emmanuel Macron announced with fanfare his plan Marseille in large : 1.5 billion to modernize the city (transport, hospitals, police). The head of state also promised a major modernization plan for 174 schools of the 470 in the city. As well as an experiment: the possibility for the directors of fifty schools, labeled “priority education”, to choose their teaching team.

“Cacophony”

Where are we today? It’s the cacophony ”, tackle Virginie Akliouat, departmental secretary of the Snuipp union in Bouches-du-Rhône. The socialist mayor Benoît Payan has quantified the work to be carried out at 1.2 billion euros. And an envelope of 254 million was voted by the National Assembly. But the prefect responsible for setting the Macron plan to music has just announced, to everyone’s surprise, that only schools volunteering for educational experimentation could benefit from the renovation plan.

We are introducing a hierarchy, but all Marseille schools need money to renovate their premises, but also to finance school trips ”, castigates Virginie Akliouat. On October 30, Benoît Payan expressed his opposition to the experiment. It’s‘National Education, until further notice, who manages these issues ”, replied curtly Jean-Michel Blanquer, last week.

In reality, managers would not be the only ones to decide; they would sit on a commission in which national education inspectors would also participate. For the moment, eighteen projects have been selected for the start of the school year.
