The streets of Santa Cruz de Bezana have been dyed pink this morning with the celebration of its Solidarity March against Cancer, an initiative launched by the City Council with the aim of rraise donations in favor of the Association for the Help of Women with Breast Cancer (AMUCCAN).
The collection will be incorporated, in full, to the funds of the psychological support service for women who suffer from this disease, and that the association develops in Santander, Torrelavega and Laredo.
After the ‘stop’ of this type of event due to the pandemic, the Consistory has resumed the organization of this type of solidarity events, given the “need” to continue supporting entities “as committed” as AMUCCAN, with which it already collaborates for years.
On the go, with a 3 kilometer route for the urban nucleus, the Vice President of the Government of Cantabria, Pablo Zuloaga; the Minister of Education, Marina Lombó; the mayor of Bezana, Alberto García Onandía; and members of the Municipal Corporation.
The president of AMUCCAN, Toñy Gimón, has stressed that the needs of women diagnosed with breast cancer “have not changed with the pandemic and that, in some cases, they have worsened in the family, social and work areas.”
According to Gimón, women with breast cancer “need comprehensive care that includes, first of all, clinical care, but there are also needs for psychological care and social and work problems that must be faced.”
Gimón has assured that “they have not stopped feeling the support and affection” of Cantabrian society throughout this time, but, at the moment, initiatives such as the one carried out by the Santa Cruz de Bezana City Council, “continue to be fundamental “so that they can carry out their psychological support program. For this reason, he was “enormously grateful for the sensitivity with which they are always” welcomed in this municipality.
