Customs – Offenbach am Main – Shop magic and the smell of mulled wine: First Christmas markets open – Culture

Offenbach / Darmstadt (dpa / lhe) – hang up the hygiene dispenser, pre-cook soups, attach lights: on Sunday, the final preparations for the opening of the Christmas market on this Monday evening (November 15th) were made in Offenbach. Shop magic, the smell of mulled wine and atmospheric lighting: Darmstadt is also set to start this Monday. Both cities are among the first major Christmas markets to begin in Hessen.

After the corona-related cancellation of these Advent offers 2020, it is a return after two years. For some citizens, however, the joy of this could be mixed with concerns about the dramatically increased corona numbers. Most of the larger cities in Hesse therefore want to significantly straighten out their Christmas markets, with more spacious areas, fewer stalls and larger safety distances.

The city of Offenbach points out that according to the current Hessian legal situation, a mask must also be worn in the open air in a crowd – without safety distances. A colorful stage program is planned again at the Offenbach Christmas market, but also subject to conditions: Large choirs and groups are taboo. This also applies to wind instruments. According to the commune on the Main, all artists have been vaccinated or have recovered.

Important news for children at the Offenbach Christmas market: Those who want to come here again are Nicholas and Servant Ruprecht on December 5th – and Santa Claus and his angel on December 6th.

Darmstadt announces a Santa Claus for December 6th, who will be out and about in the city with mulled wine princess Lara I.
