PE teachers ask for more sport at school

Around the slogan “A more sporty youth, it is possible”, within the framework of this national week of the EPS from November 15 to 19, the teachers of physical education and sport (EPS) and the national union of the physical education, Snep / FSU, have decided to raise their voice this Monday, November 15 by organizing a symbolic action on the Champ-de-Mars in Valence, from 2 to 4 p.m.

“Four hours of PE per week throughout schooling for all” is what sports teachers and their union advocate. Noting “a sedentary lifestyle on the rise as a result of the Covid period and a decline in the physical capacities of young people”, the Snep / FSU Drôme calls for “the strengthening of sports practice, responding to issues of health, emancipation, cultural development and to live together ”.

In the Drôme, the Snep / FSU notes “a shortage of facilities in Valence and Romans, a lack of swimming pool and ancillary rooms in gymnasiums throughout the territory”.

As for teaching posts, the union denounces “the 12 job cuts in the Drôme for this school year 2021/2022; an increase in overtime and the massive use of contract workers, including many students with work-study contract status ”.

Among the “signs of weakening of the EPS in the education system”, the Snep / FSU recalls the disappearance of the PE test for the patent since 2017.
