Andrej Podkonický, assistant coach of the Slovak Republic: “I have to praise the guys for their excellent performance. The Russians had a good start, but then we started playing very well. We had excellent movement again, we were aggressive, we got them under pressure with our excellent forging, hockey sticks.
Especially in the second period we played very well, we created a lot of chances, it’s a pity we didn’t score a goal there, but we scored it in the third period. We played with it wisely, we got the pucks deep into their third and we practically didn’t let them go.
The boys once again proved that if they followed what Craig Ramsay required of them, they could beat anyone. Tomorrow we play against the Germans, they have a strong team, they are aggressive, they have big and strong defenders, but I think that when we give such a performance, we have nothing to worry about. ”
Adrián Holešinský, scorer of the winning goal of the Slovak Republic: “It simply came to our notice then. The important thing is that we played the whole match as we imagined. I’m glad I was able to score that goal, but I benefited from the excellent cooperation of all the players on the ice. It was a good conscientious team performance and I’m glad we won.
I have to say that we sat down with the guys in our attack from day one and we already had a lot of chances against the Swiss. Even now we have played a good match, we are good skaters, we are working, we have such a feeling among us and we know what to expect from each other. Tomek is an excellent goalkeeper, he has shown his quality against the Swiss and today he only confirmed that it is not just a coincidence. ”
Matej Tomek, goalkeeper of the SR: “The boys did an excellent performance in both matches in front of me, helping me in the defensive zone, whether it was a fight in front of the goal or a hit. It helped to keep me cool, I felt good. I would like it to continue in the club. I haven’t caught in Brno for the last two weeks, so the change of environment and team has helped me a bit. ”
Samuel Takáč, scorer of the first goal of the Slovak Republic: “Every goal will please and especially when the match is won. I hope that will continue. The Russians ran at us from the beginning and it looked like they had more of the game. Thankfully, we scored goals and took the initiative. When we won 2: 1, the Russians did not follow us like the Swiss, they did not play so aggressively. However, their technical sophistication was at a higher level. ”
