Düsseldorf The closure of Düsseldorf Central Station has ended. The building was evacuated for around two hours on Saturday evening. There may still be delays in train services.
The Düsseldorf main train station was completely cleared on Saturday around 5.30 p.m. All travelers had to leave the building. The adjacent Ibis hotel was also partially affected. The reason: around 5.15 p.m., an abandoned backpack was discovered in the main hall, as a spokesman for the federal police told our editorial team.

A defusing team from the Federal Police arrived at the main train station at around 6.30 p.m. At 7.45 p.m., the federal police were able to give the all-clear and reopen the building for all travelers. The contents of the bag were harmless, the spokesman said.

Trains were diverted or waited in front of the main station, they were not allowed to enter during the closure. At around 8 p.m., DB Regio reported: “The trains will soon be back on the planned route with all the planned stops.” However, there could still be some long delays and, if necessary, partial failures. Passengers were asked to find out about the current connections online or via the DB app.

Because of the closure of the main station, the RE2 trains from the direction of Dülmen had ended and started in Duisburg Hbf. The trains on line RE4 from the direction of Dortmund Hbf ended and began in Wuppertal-Vohwinkel. Trains from Aachen Hbf ended and began in Mönchengladbach Hbf. A replacement bus service between Wuppertal-Vohwinkel and Mönchengladbach Hbf was set up.

The trains of the S1 line from the direction of Solingen Hbf ended and began in Düsseldorf-Eller. From the direction of Dortmund Hbf, the trains ended and began in Düsseldorf-Unterrath. The trains on line S6 from the direction of Essen Hbf ended and began in Düsseldorf Wehrhahn. Trains from Cologne-Nippes ended and began in Langenfeld. There were many partial failures around Düsseldorf Central Station.
