The Russians started the onslaught and already in the 3rd minute took the lead. Ovčinnikov won the puck at the guardrail, passed in front of Byčkov’s goal and he overcame Tomek. The Slovaks were able to answer after only three minutes, when Takáč caught the opponent’s pass, pulled the puck and leveled with an accurate shot. The match had a high pace from the beginning, the puck flew on the rink and the game was constantly shifting from side to side. The Slovaks played the first power play from the 9th minute, but they didn’t do well. However, they were still more active and took the lead in the 14th minute. Once again, they used the opponent’s bad pass, which was caught by Holešinský. The first shot didn’t work out, but he already converted the goal – 2: 1. The Russians could equal the third, but Guskov was caught by Tomek.
In the 21st minute, he could have sent the Slovaks to the two-goal lead Kňažko, but did not hit the exposed part of the goal. In the 25th minute, Roman did not prevail, and a moment later, Buček did not face Samonov. The subsequent Russian power play did not bring a goal, but shortly after that it got “renumbered” into the renumbering and Krutov was only a short distance away from leveling. Sorkin had another good chance to take the lead on Tomek’s dazzling drive up the left, but the opportunity fizzled away as his shot went just over the bar after 37 minutes. The Slovaks also defended the second weakening and went to the third period with a one-goal lead.
The Russians held the puck in it and tried to create, but it was not easy against the opponent’s well-organized defense. They could not create continuous pressure and the opponent kept them out of shooting positions. Ramsay’s charges also defended the third weakening in the match, Krištof even got into a raid in it, but he did not beat Samonov. In the 51st minute, however, Buček managed with an accurate shot and the Slovaks led 3: 1. They didn’t let go of the lead and the two-minute game of Russia without a goalkeeper didn’t change anything.
