Coupe de France: Mainvilliers at the door of a new feat, tonight, against Angoulême

It is not in its favorite stadium of Bernard-Maroquin that CS Mainvilliers will play, this Saturday, November 13 (7 p.m.), the second 7th round of the Coupe de France in its history, but on the lawn of its neighbor, the C’Chartres Football. At the Jacques-Couvret stadium, the Tangos hope to write another page of their little guestbook by spurring Angoulême (N2). Leaving a resident of the 4th national division would be a first for the small club which only evolves in Regional 2, that is to say three divisions below the Charentais.

CSM: almost complete

The closest to the Couvret stadium will be coach Benoît Devin. “I’m even going to go down there on foot, but it’s a little disappointment not to play on our field for a question of too small changing rooms of a few m². The rules have changed since 2015 (note: year when the CSM went to the 8th round) since we have the right to have 18 players on the sheet … But hey, we are not going to spit in the soup. We will undoubtedly have the support of supporters of Chartres ”, confides the coach of a CSM still undefeated this season, in all competitions, and who will have a full squad, with the exception of striker Chems Ahmed Chaouch, hit in the thigh 48 hours before this 7th round.

Maintenon had done it!

If Mainvilliers passed this 7th round, it would be the second Eurelian club to eliminate Angoulême. Eight years ago, ES Maintenon-Pierres (DHR, equivalent of R2) had left the Charentais club, then in CFA2. Far from being the favorite, even if it had already released in the 4th round a CFA2 (Bourges 18, 2-0), the ESMP had suffocated its entry opponent – 3-1 after 29 minutes with a goal of the current C’Chartres Foot player Ludwig Lahaye – to finally win 3-2 at Louis-Roche on November 17, 2013.

Angoulême, leader of N2

Angoulême Charente FC, renamed in 2005 following a demotion by the DNCG at the regional level after 41 seasons at the national level, is running after its luster of yesteryear, at the time of the ASA. An ASA who rubbed shoulders with the elite three seasons (1969 to 1972) and even played a first round of the European Cup (C3) in 1970 against the Portuguese Guimaraes, after a 4th place won in his first season in D1.

The Charente club also wrote a great story in the Coupe de France with four semi-finals (1947, 1967, 1968 and 1979). Returned to National 2 since 2019, the ACFC is co-leader of group D (6V-3N-2D) with Canet-en-Roussillon and Bergerac, its next two opponents. No high-sounding names within this ACFC made up of two ex-Saint-Pryvé, goalkeeper Allan Hunou and striker Thierry Lemaître, who has not yet opened his counter (Bisson and Fichten are 5 units in N2 while the best director in the cup is midfielder Barcq with 4 goals). The coach of the Charente club is not unknown either, since it is the ex-coach of FC Rouen, David Giguel.

“I’m not looking at the levels of the teams in the Cup, but the players who make them up and the game strategy, and Mainvilliers is a very good team. It will be necessary to be at 150% to pass… ”Some elements of the AFC have evolved on the upper floor such as defender Elie Ehua (Châteauroux / L2) and midfielders El Hadji Dieye (Red Star and Sannois / Nat) and Abou Touré (Béziers / Nat).
