Users should be particularly careful in group chats and when forwarding messages. As the WDR reports, WhatsApp users can make themselves punishable in some cases. WhatsApp automatically saves photos on the phone. Experts advise users to delete such graphics from the device immediately and not to forward them under any circumstances.

If you want to prevent prohibited content from landing on your smartphone, you can protect yourself with a few settings in the app. All you have to do is tap on the three dots in the upper right corner in Messenger and select “Storage and data” in the settings. There you can set when media should be automatically downloaded and saved on the smartphone.
