Warning, illegal content! With THESE WhatsApp messages you are making yourself liable to prosecution
Users should be particularly careful in group chats and when forwarding messages. As the WDR reports, WhatsApp users can make themselves punishable in some cases. This applies above all to pornographic as well as racist and seditious content. The latter even fulfills the penalty of distributing forbidden writings, reports the WDR. The bad thing: Even owning such Sharepics (pictures with sayings etc.) and stickers can be punishable by law. WhatsApp users can often not prevent such content from landing on their smartphones. WhatsApp automatically saves photos on the phone. Experts advise users to delete such graphics from the device immediately and not to forward them under any circumstances.
You can make yourself liable to prosecution with the following content:
- Call for crime
- kinderpornografisches Material
- Denial of the Holocaust
- rabble-rousing
- Anti-constitutional symbols that were banned under Section 86a of the Criminal Code (StGB)
- Symbols of National Socialism
THIS setting protects you from banned photos and videos
If you want to prevent prohibited content from landing on your smartphone, you can protect yourself with a few settings in the app. All you have to do is tap on the three dots in the upper right corner in Messenger and select “Storage and data” in the settings. There you can set when media should be automatically downloaded and saved on the smartphone.
