BOLA – Argentina wins in Montevideo and has one foot in Qatar (World Cup 2022)

An apathetic Argentina with little energy went to Montevideo to beat Uruguay, 1-0, in the 13th round of the South American qualification for the 2022 World Cup.

With Lionel Messi in the lineup for the first time since 2016 and Nicolás Otamendi (a busy night with the restless Luis Suárez ahead) at the center of defence, the Argentines were largely dominated by the Uruguayan national team – Manuel Ugarte was on the bench – which, in addition, of the many casualties (Coates, Viña, Valverde, Arrascaeta, Darwin, Cavani…), he may complain of a mistake in the finalization for not having taken points from this game, as there were countless chances created and missed by Oscar Tabárez’s team .

The only goal of the game (and what a goal!) was scored by Ángel Di María, with a sublime arched shot into the upper left corner of the goal, in the seventh minute. Apart from the exceptional technical gesture of the PSG winger, the Argentines created little danger with Fernando Muslera.

With this triumph, Argentina sealed the 26th game in a row without losing and is getting closer and closer to the World Cup. THE albiceleste is second, with 28 points, while Uruguay is in sixth place, outside the qualifying zone, with 16 points, equal to Chile and Colombia.
