The singer was incapacitated since 2008. Britney Spears was then struggling with mental problems and addiction. Her father, James “Jamie” Spears, then gained control over her life and property.
The man took complete control of her life. For over a decade, he was responsible for all of its finances as well he was going to install wiretaps in her bedroomto control her phone calls.
“The guardianship of Britney Jean Spears’ person and property is terminated today,” Judge Brenda Penny announced on Friday.
The court added that the current probation officer would continue work on regulating current financial matters. The hearing on November 12 was short and smooth as all parties agreed to the previously agreed terms. The artist was not present at the hearing.
Britney Spears has recently called for her father to be removed from control of her life. In September of this year, Los Angeles High Court Judge Brenda J. Penny acceded to the singer’s request, thereby slipping James “Jamie” Spears from scrutiny. The chartered accountant John Zabel has temporarily taken over the role.
From 2019, Spears was also under the care of professional curator Jodi Montgomery. Now the court has decided to restore Britney to total control of her life.
The end of guardianship does not mean the end of court disputes with the singer’s father. In July, Britney Spears indicated that she was prepared to prosecute her father for “abuses” of guardianship.
