Australia beat Pakistan by 5 wickets Thursday at Dubai International Stadium to reach the current T20 World Cup final. While the highlight of the match was the heroism of Matthew Wade and the abandoned capture of Hasan Ali (or the abandoned World Cup according to the memes world), several other examples of the match grabbed viewers’ attention on the internet. One of them was the sacking of Australian opener David Warner. Warner had taken on the pursuit of Australia past the wickets of Aaron Finch early on and Mitchell Marsh later. Warner was pounding at 49 and was handed over on the very first ball he faced after the drink break. Shadab Khan, who had already taken the wicket from Marsh and Steve Smith, appeared to have gotten the better of Warner as he was caught by Rizwan.
It seemed like everyone was convinced that Warner was missing, including the referee, the whole Pakistani team as well as Warner himself. Therefore, although he left two reviews, he did not go for one.
However, a super-sharp clip of the shot later shown to viewers revealed that the bat had made no contact with the ball and that Warner could have stayed on the crease had he taken an exam.
After the game, Twitter was of course inundated with hilarious reactions and memes about the incident.
Australia will now face New Zealand in the top shock of the T20 World Cup final where the new champion will be crowned on November 14 in Dubai.
