German in the midst of the fourth wave of the pandemic corona virus (COVID-19) which made the country record 50 thousand cases in a day. Chancellor Angela Merkel also gave a special message to those who haven’t Corona vaccine until now.
Merkel confirmed, as reported by Reuters, Friday (11/12/2021), that German citizens who have not been vaccinated against Corona should understand that they have an obligation to the whole community to protect others.
Merkel also stated that it is the duty of politicians to be honest with the public in a situation like this. The message was delivered by Merkel while speaking virtually at the Asia-Pacific business forum at the invitation of New Zealand’s Prime Minister (PM), Jacinda Ardern, on Thursday (11/11) local time.
The number of reported coronavirus cases has surged across Europe in recent weeks, partly due to unvaccinated people continuing to pass the virus on to older people and those who are vulnerable.
The situation has experts worried that the healthcare system will once again be overwhelmed.
“We have to make it clear that I have the right to get vaccinated, and that’s a huge fortune, a huge achievement for science and technology,” Merkel said while speaking via video link.
“But I also have a certain obligation to contribute in protecting society,” he stressed.
